Oil / Gas

Citronelle’s oil and gas roots date back to 1955 when the biggest oil field east of the Mississippi River, at the time, was discovered in Citronelle. Citronelle produced 160 million barrels of oil 12,000 feet down becoming Alabama’s only “giant” oil field, which is a field that produces more than 100 barrels. Over time more than 500 wells would be drilled in Citronelle going as deep as 20,000 feet below the surface.
